I hosted a last-minute surprise birthday party for my daughter. It seemed like a last-minute to me since I only had a week to plan it and less than ONE hour to set up everything. I didn’t do as much as I would typically do for a party, but it was still a blast.
This party was in the summer. So, why a winter theme? Because it’s my daughter’s favorite season!
Winter-Themed Party Decorations
1. Snowy Winter Lane Backdrop
When I saw this winter backdrop, I knew right away it was the one I wanted. It captures so well the beauty of the winter, the peaceful winter wonderland.
The 7x5ft was the perfect size for our dessert table. A backdrop stand comes in handy when hosting parties; I have had mine for a few years.
2. Snowflake Tablecloth
I layered two tablecloths: a plain white one topped with a round snowflake tablecloth.
3. Snowflake Table Scatter
Acrylic snowflakes scattered around the table add extra sparkle. Sorry about the fuzzy pictures. Photography is something I need to work on.
4. Silver Tree Table Decorations
Silver trees, white trees, and even evergreens with snow would look fun at this winter-themed party.
The 22″ silver tree is from Hobby Lobby.
All these trees are fabulous:
5. Balloons
The confetti balloons made a huge difference in this balloon combo. It ended up looking way more festive with them.
This is the inexpensive balloon package I got. Attach the balloons to a stand, creating a simple but pretty table decoration.
The balloon set has enough balloons for making a garland if you’d prefer that. You’ll want one of these electric balloon pumps for that.
6. Candle Lanterns
Decorative candle lanterns create a cozy feel. Use them as centerpieces or place them on side tables.
7. Chair Back Decorations
An elegant winter wonderland party needs these beautiful pearl string chair-back decorations. If you want to give them a little less formal look, add a couple of snowflakes to each string.
8. Winter Fun Stuff
Sleighs, skis, skates…
- Use a wooden sleigh to add dimension to the dessert table. Place bowls filled with goodies on the sleigh.
- Frame ice skates art and surround it with decorative evergreen trees.
- Create fun place cards with wooden ski ornaments that double as party favors.
9. Snowflake Serving Bowls
These ceramic snowflake lanterns are from Wal-Mart and were great for serving wrapped chocolate.
Check out these snowflake dishes:
- snowflake candy bowl
- snowflake cake stand, you want to see this!
- snowflake glass mugs
You could also use white platters, tiered serving dishes, and bowls. Decorate them with snowflake vinyl stickers.
2. Winter Themed Party Food
We served various snacks that were not all winter-themed…
- strawberries
- blueberries
- raspberries
- pumpkin pie spice cupcakes (white frosting)
- strawberry pretzels
- chocolate
- popcorn
- etc.
But it’s fun to have some winter-themed foods as well.
1. Appetizers
1.1. Cheese Balls and Cutouts
Create a cheese platter with various cheese, fruit, and crackers.
Serve crackers and cheese cutouts; use snowflake cookie cutters to create theme-fitting shapes.
Or make simple Caprese Skewers with mozzarella balls, basil leaves, and cherry tomatoes. Drizzle with balsamic vinaigrette. And how is this a winter-themed snack, you might ask. Well, the mozzarella balls are like snowballs.
1.2. Popcorn
Plain popcorn is always a delicious choice, but if you’d like to upgrade it, mix the popcorn with some snowflake sprinkles.
For the snowflake popcorn, you’ll need
- 8 cups of popped popcorn
- 1 cup of white chocolate, melted
- 4 TBS snowflake sprinkles
- Pour the melted chocolate over the popped popcorn.
- Spread on a cookie sheet.
- Sprinkle the sprinkles on top.
- Let the chocolate cool and harden.
In addition to plain buttery popcorn, we served Hershey’s Cookies ‘n Cream Popcorn.
2. Soup Bar
Any soup is great, but these white soups are very fitting for a winter wonderland party.
- White Chili
- Creamy Chicken Soup
- Creamy Rice and Chicken Soup
- Potato Soup
- Cream of Mushroom Soup
Pamper the guests with an impressive soup bar serving various soups and toppings.
3. Winter-Themed Cake
Anyone can create an incredible winter-themed cake with these edible snowflakes.
They are beautifully crafted and look absolutely stunning. Almost too good to be eaten! The snowflakes are brushed with edible pearl dust and sprinkled with white and clear crystals for extra sparkle.
They come in various colors too! Which one will you choose?
4. “Melted Snow” Water Bottles
Add some humor with “melted snow” water bottles.
I used these self-adhesive waterproof labels for printing. And I removed the original water labels before attaching the “melted snow” labels.
Here is a FREE melted snow water bottle printable for you to use.
