Sometimes the loveliest holiday gatherings are the smallest. This Christmas tea was shared around the table with my daughters, turning an ordinary December afternoon into a storybook moment.

Christmas Tea Inspired By Pears

Pears have always been a part of my Christmas season. Maybe because that is when they are naturally available, slowly ripened in cool storage till they are just right, making them a delicious holiday treat. The song Twelve Days of Christmas has also ingrained it into my mind that pears and Christmas belong together.

Instead of creating a tablescape based on all the elements in the song, I picked one. Pears. A simple theme made the party planning easier. I focused on colors that made the pears shine, like sage and silver.

Holiday Table Decorating with Pears

I was not very picky when selecting the pears. Natural look with imperfections is fine with me. But since the pears were also on the sage table runner, I wanted to make sure they were firm and not leaving puddles behind them.

Using natural elements like fruit on the holiday table is a cozy European tradition, a sweetness that was part of my life growing up. Tucking some sparkly elements next to the pears created a more storybook-elegant atmosphere.

I loved the contrast between the golden pears and silver accents. Gold ornaments would not have had the same effect.

Pear-Shaped Place Cards with Silver Accents

I turned simple pear wood cutouts into name cards. This decor set the tone: personal, thoughtful, and a bit whimsical. I used Cricut to make the vinyl lettering, but names written with a silver pen would be just as magical. I love how the silver ribbon and glimmering vinyl lettering added sparkle.

Each place whispered, “I’m glad you’re here.”

There’s something special about seeing your own name waiting at the table. It turns an ordinary place setting into a welcome.

Candlelit Christmas Tea Tablescape

One of my favorite moments was lighting the candles. Even on a December afternoon, the gentle flicker made the table setting glow with warmth. I tucked in fairylights under the two-tiered serving tray, bringing a little storybook twinkle to the gathering.

The whole room felt like a soft, dreamy Christmas moment: warm lights, silver accents, and cozy sage.

The Menu: Pear-Themed Savory & Sweet Treats

Sparkling Pear Cocktail

Our afternoon began with a sparkling pear cocktail served in champagne flutes on a silver tray. It was a simple mix of sparkling wine and pear juice, or sparkling water as a non-alcoholic alternative.

Pastries Made with Pears

The heart of the table: soft pastries arranged beside tiny silver ornaments. Nothing overly complicated, just simple homemade treats made magical by the glow of fairy lights and the glimmer of silver.

One of my favorites: Finnish joulupulla that features a soft, delicous cardamom-flavored bun filled with prune jam and topped with pear slices and sprinkled with sliced almonds. It’s filling, comforting, slightly sweet… just perfect for afternoon teas or evening bites.

Crostini with Goat Cheese and Pears

I served simple crostinis topped with sliced pears and creamy goat cheese. And arranged them on a silver tray with festive sparkle. The crostinis added a perfect savory balance to the sweet pastries.

For us, this was also an early dinner, so I served delicious grilled chicken with crisp green salad sprinkled with Dubliner cheese. I added delicate pear slices and dried cranberries for sweetness, and walnuts for extra crunch. Drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette, this easy dish became an enchanting protein-filled pear delight.

The Christmas Tea

Surprisingly, I did not serve pear tea. I wish I had thought of that sooner and found some delicious, loose-leaf pear tea. What I did instead was serve a variety of herbal teas in addition to green and black tea options.

Any tea the guest chose tasted festive from our porcelain teacups.

A Moment Worth Remembering

I loved how elegant this setting turned out, starting with a simple pear. The tablescape with a flowing sage table runner, crystal pieces catching the candlelight, and golden pears and silver ornaments placed as accents had just enough shimmer to feel festive.

Instrumental Christmas music, playing softly in the background, wrapped the room in a velvet-warm holiday glow.

It truly was one of those moments I will always remember: beautiful setting, delicious pear treats, and lively conversations. It reminded me that some of the sweetest holiday memories are the joyful afternoons shared around a table.
