Some themes you don’t plan, they just happen, like this romantic vignette for our bedroom. It all started with a Valentine’s card, the first one my husband gave me. This card brought to my mind other precious memories which led me to additional items.
And somewhere along the way, like the love of your life, the theme wandered in: remember when…

How This Space Came Together
This dresser has followed us through the years and seasons, from state to state and home to home. Which made it a fitting base for holding these memories.
I started with a crocheted runner as a romantic base. In the very center, I placed a charcoal gray box for holding a silver heart frame. The box itself is very plain, so I layered a folded doily for softness.
A lovely mauve rose with its stem wrapped in a muted floral chiffon scarf, rested on the box with a little note.
On one side I set three candles and the other the first Valentine’s card, a framed picture of us, and a music box.
The Objects and Their Stories

My husband is a gift-giver and this setting was to show how much all these presents meant to me.
The First Valentine’s Card – hopes and dreams written on it.
The Box – represents the heart-shaped chocolate box my husband (then fiancé ) sent to me with the Valentine’s card. We lived an ocean away from each other.
A Rose -a reminder of the weekly rose I received from him when we first got married. If you wonder why he stopped, well, I developed a multiple chemical sensitivity and even the scent of roses made me ill. (I’m better now.)
A Note – always accompanied the rose.
A Photo – a lovely memory from a sunset dinner cruise he took me on my first birthday as his wife.
A Music Box – one of the several music boxes he has given me.
Candles – well, every romantic setting needs some.
Remember when…
This open ended sentence entered the scene as I looked at all these items and let the memories flow in.
It is not about a perfect past but for a lived one. It’s about honoring our story, its beautiful beginning, the ups and downs, and the love that still is.
A Place for Prayer

My sewing table is in the bedroom and that provided a place for another lovely display: framed prayers. I placed them on a placemat that is exactly the same style as the runner on the dresser.
We received both of these framed prayers on our wedding day and they fit right in with the remember when theme. One of them even begins with the words, “Lord, help us to remember the time we first met…“
February is one of those months when we naturally remember our love stories.
