Sometimes the plants in the Rose Parlour seem to be having their own quiet conversations.
As I was sitting in the Rose Parlour sipping my afternoon tea, I noticed this orchid tilting its head like it was whispering the latest gossip to a quiet neighbor, who was politely pretending not to be interested while listening carefully.

It was an ordinary day. Lady Orchid, the village busybody, with her white silk bonnet framing her face lowered her voice to deliver the latest details of the garden club tea party.

The exchange unfolded like this:
Lady Orchid, her eyes twinkling with mischief, leaned and whispered, “…and then she served the tea lukewarm.”
“Good heavens! Are you quite certain? “ Inquired Mr. Green, the quiet gentleman from the Dieffenbachia Manor.
“As certain as the morning sun on the parlour wall,” replied Lady Orchid. “And that,” she continued, “was only the beginning.”

It is moments like this that make life feel a bit more like a storybook. An orchid, not clipped to the supporting stick, leans and peeks towards the light coming from the window. And a dieffenbachia next to it does the same, creating a little scene of an ongoing conversation in the Rose Parlour.
I call these moments The Cottage Moments. Sometimes they involve plants sharing secrets in the Rose Parlour, or a morning light dancing on the fruit bowls. Other times, they are playful picnics in the park or under the birch tree.
Little occasions with a storybook touch.
A Storybook Note
This scene in the Rose Parlour was a lovely reminder that even the quiet corners of the home have stories to tell.
